I have always loved Italian food and I was looking for a great new dish to try and add to my recipe collection. I stumbled across this baked ziti recipe one day and decided it didn’t look too hard .
I am not a super big cook or chef so I found this recipe pretty easy to make and it didn’t require too many steps or ingredients.
I ended up having some left over spaghetti sauce so I froze it and used it for spaghetti another night. This is a great way to extend your ingredients and make many meals out of the sauce. We even added a can of fresh tomatoes and more sauce to make stuffed peppers for a third meal out of the left over sauce.
The recipe turned out wonderful and we have since made it into one of our favorite meals! What meals would you make if you had extra sauce?
Below are a list of the ingredients:
1 pound dry ziti pasta
1 onion, chopped
1 pound lean ground beef
2 (26 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce
6 ounces provolone cheese, sliced1 1/2 cups sour cream
6 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
- Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add ziti pasta, and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes; drain.
- In a large skillet, brown onion and ground beef over medium heat. Add spaghetti sauce, and simmer 15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer as follows: 1/2 of the ziti, Provolone cheese, sour cream, 1/2 sauce mixture, remaining ziti, mozzarella cheese and remaining sauce mixture. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until cheeses are melted.
