I watched this movie starring Helen Mirren called The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone. This movie is set in the 1950’s where Helen Mirren plays the part of an aging stage actress who is married to a very weatlhy husband. While en route to vacation in Rome with her husband after a very disastrous play her husband suffers a heart attack and dies. She decides to stay in Rome and finds herself friends with the seedy Contessa played very well by Anne Bancroft.
The contessa introduces her to young gigolos and she starts a very tumultuous affair with a much younger Italian played by Olivier Martinez. The Contessa and the gigolos use her for her money but she falls in love with her young lover. She also has a very mysterious poor young man that follows her throughout the movie. This adds mystery to the movie and keeps you guessing as to who he is and what he wants from her.
This movie is very sensual and the love scenes are very passionate. There is something delightful in the pairing of a much older actress to a younger man. This is a rated R movie and meant for mature audiences only. The acting of Ms. Helen Mirren and Anne Bancroft was excellent and I enjoyed this movie very much. So pour yourself some wine, light some candles and enjoy this delicious movie.
