My Summer Netflix Addictions
Well summer is here and has been in full swing for the past two months now. I have found myself indoors more, next to the air conditioner, with a cool drink in my hand and some time to waste. So I fired up my Netflix and have become engrossed in two summer addictions thus far. Over the past few years, I have fallen into the Reality TV zone and have failed to watch a lot of the “hot” TV shows going around. I am not a cop drama or detective CSI type so that left out a lot of shows to choose from. I did however find a few jewels that quenched my need for juicy entertainment that was good, guilty and just flat out awesomely fun!
Orange is the New Black
My first addiction quencher was Orange is the New Black. I loved all three seasons of this show and binge watched all three seasons. Yes, I did all three and now I have to wait until season 4 to get more. The cool thing about watching Netflix is no commercials and the ability to watch all seasons (usually) in a row.
Orange is the New Black is a Netflix original series so it is only on Netflix. I really loved this show, it is based in a women’s minimal lock down facility and is centered around the women inmates and guards of this prison. There are a lot of plot twists, multiple story lines of the inmates but what I love is the back story. They not only show the present day, day to day of the prison but also how the characters got there. I really enjoyed the flash backs and learning about each inmate and how and why they are there.
This series has given me insight into what others go through, the impact it has on them and their families. I didn’t think I would love this series as much as I did but the acting and writing are amazing. You find yourself rooting for the inmates and wishing they could all get out. This show is really well executed and I highly recommend it to anyone. It may take you an episode or two but once your in you will be addicted! You have been warned..;)
My second Netflix addiction is Gossip Girl! Yes, I am like five years late to the party on this one but wow I love this show! I just completed the end of season 6 and the final episode and I am sad lol. No more S and B, no more who is Gossip Girl? I got so involved and obsessed with the characters of this show.
Gossip Girl is based in New York City, upper east side with a bunch of privelidged teens going to a private school. It is like 90210 meets Pretty Little Liars with a splash of Sex in the City. It is geared more toward the younger crowd but I loved every minute of it. The fashions, the characters, the plots and scandals, love love it all. It does get a bit quirky sometimes but you do invest in the main characters of Blair, Serena, Chuck, Nate and Dan. The parents play a nice role as well with their own plots and storylines.
If you love fashion with a bit of comedy and suspense then you will love this show. I watched all six seasons over the last few weeks. They have over 20 episodes per season so there is a lot to this show. I am suffering from major withdrawals but my “to do lists” will thank me. I keep wanting to see what Blair and Dorita are doing, no new schemes to watch. I did hear a rumor of a reunion on the interwebs but that is yet to be seen or heard. Now I just stalk Instagram accounts of Blake Lively and Leighton Meister for any clues.
If you are like me and have a serious case of what would Blair Waldorf do, then you will be happy to know there are a lot of Gossip Girl Instagram and Facebook fan sites online. Otherwise you can check out Gossip Girl on Netflix and become addicted all over again like me.
