So I know I am a little late to the Netflix party for Stranger Things but wow, I am so glad that I finally watched this show! First off, this show has a very Steven Spielberg type of feel to it. It is a cross between ET meets the X-Files and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I loved the fact this show takes place in the 80’s and brings you instantly back to a time of simpler things and how people were not so dependent on technology and cell phones. The wardrobe, hair and makeup were spot on and yes we had horrible fashion back then lol. But, I loved it! Bring back my Jordache Jeans and Love’s Baby Soft perfume please, but I digress back to the review.
The story is centered around a small town and five young boys as the main characters. Add in a creepy and mysterious government type of research facility and a strange girl with a shaved head. Did I mention the scary alien that is stalking the town and killing people? Yah you have that too, hence the title Stranger Things! I will not give away too much of the plot as to be a spoiler but I will say. This show gets you hooked in right away, I did jump a time or two so it does get a bit spooky. The acting is great, especially the kids. I really believed they were real and they did an amazing job in the casting. I was also very happy to see Mathew Modine and Winona Ryder acting in this series.
Elements of the Show
The writing on the show is great, the theme song is addicting and awesome, the set and wardrobe were very realistic. So I give this Netflix series two thumbs up and I highly recommend it to anyone. If you like ET and the X-Files then you will love this series. My only complaint is that it is only 8 episodes but they have another season coming out in early 2017! I cannot wait to see it, they left you on a total cliff hanger so I am really excited to see where the show will go.
My only other complaint is, Barb! I loved her character and yes there is a total save Barb movement happening online. So watch the show and you will see what I am talking about. #SaveBarb!
