The Stellar and the Shocking Performances of the 2013 VMAS

vmas_fianl VMAS')"> So last night the much anticipated Video Music Awards on MTV premiered with a stellar  opening performance from Lady Gaga. She first appeared in this weird futuristic nun outfit and continued to have three separate costume changes during one number. I liked the song and performance but find Lady Gaga to be grasping at straws to stay relevant and unique. I still do not think she is as good as Madonna but still entertaining none the less.

The most talked about performance of the night had to have been Miley Cyrus’s performance to her hit song ” We can’t stop”. I personally love Miley and her style and was looking forward to this song and performance. Well I am sure you heard about it but just in case you live under a rock here is the break down of last night’s performance. Miley comes out of a huge Gummy bear wearing the strangest teddy bear jump suit leotard complete with two mini balls on her head. She pokes her head out of the bear and sticks her tongue out grossly over and over again as if she is a lizard. She dances, sings with an group of dancers dressed as giant gummy bears and then it gets really strange.

During the performance she continues to dance provocatively while grabbing her privates over and over again. The camera pans to show the shocked and disgusted faces of celebrities in the audience. The whole time I am watching this performance I just feel completely embarrassed and sad for her. As if this is not bad enough Robin Thicke then joins the stage for a duet of his song “blurred lines”. Miley peels off her teddy bear outfit to reveal a nude bikini that melts into her bone thin body. She then proceeds to point and grab at Robin’s privates with a large foam finger.  As if the pointing to his privates is not bad enough she then bends over and does the jersey turnpike all over Robin Thicke. I felt like I was at a cheap strip show and not watching a superstar perform.

The strangest part was at the end when the cameras pan to Miley’s mother who stands up and gives her a standing ovation! This reminded me so much of Dina Lohan and Lindsey Lohan, seriously what is she on? BTW interesting note her fiancee was nowhere at the show. Would you be embarrassed? What do you think is up with Miley? I am very sad for her and hope that she learns that this is not the way to succeed in this business.

Justin Timberlake and Nsync perform the much anticipated reunion but a major dissappointment. I love Justin Timberlake but felt his 15 minute performance was a bit long and the reunion was less than half of one song. Justin could have sang a combination of his old hits and then some of his new songs but could have more than just one song with his old band mates. I felt a little bad for them to have only gotten half of a song then ushered away so Justin could continue to perform. I understand it was Justin’s night since he was up for a very big award but still I felt that NSync played such a huge part of his career it should have been highlighted more. What do you think? Did you think the reunion was good or was it a disappointment?

The best part of the whole show was the final performance by Katy Perry. This was an awesome performance of her new song ” Roar”. I have to say Katy Perry never disappoints me and this was by far the best moment for me. Overall the show was a typical award show but the shocking and sad performance by Miley Cyrus was by far the most lasting impression. What was your opinion on her performance? What was your favorite moment at this year’s VMAS?
